Chaplain Sam Oliver has dedicated his life to helping others deal with loss and death. His latest book, God a Logs On Living and Dying, gives those facing death inspiration and insight into the spirituality of the soul.


Reverend Oliver uses his years of counseling experience to help the dying understand the process of leaving their bodies behind. About the author


Reverend Doctor Samuel Lee Oliver has cared for the needs of the dying in palliative care for over 15 years. During that time, Sam has served as the Chair, and now, Co-Chair of the Hospice Ethics Committee at the Hospice Care Center of VNS in Akron, Ohio. He served several as a State Continuing Education Chairperson for the Association of Professional Chaplains for several years. For well over a decade, Sam has been an active editorial review board member and contributing writer for Healing Ministry Journal, The Journal of Terminal Oncology, and The American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care.



The author began speaking about spiritual care more than 14 years ago and continues to speak at public engagements on the local, national, and international levels. He has spoken at several college campuses and has been keynote speaker at several Hospice Conferences. His first book, What the Dying Teach Us: Lessons on Living, is a National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization selection.



His undergraduate study was done at Georgetown College where he earned a B.A. in Psychology. He received his Master of Divinity degree with an emphasis in the Pastor/Teacher track from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2003, he finished his post-graduate certificate in Healthcare Ethics at Rush University in Chicago, IL. Presently he is the chaplain at the Hospice Care Center of VNS.
