Since this book was published in November of 2006, I have been pleased to receive many positive comments from parents, administrators, elected officials, journalists, and a host of concerned citizens. I was appointed as a professor at Parent University, Chicago, Illinois hosted by The Black Star Project. I have had the pleasure of writing a popular column for a local community paper, North Lawndale Community News, titled: The Parent Connection. In addition, I have had the privilege of seeing this book listed as an Amazon.com bestseller, while being sold online at two of the nation’s largest retailers; Target and Wal-Mart. It has also been certified as a "Top 100" seller by another independent website. Also, I have been honored to appear as a guest on several national television and radio programs to promote Not All Teachers Are Parents, But All Parents Are Teachers! These include nationally syndicated, Heartbeat of America, with host William Shatner; Chicago Speaks with bestselling author, Les Brown; and the nationally syndicated Warren Ballentine Show, to name a few.
The aforementioned experiences have provided me with opportunities to talk about issues that accentuate positive parenting.
In speaking engagements from California to Florida and Canada to Texas, many have asked, "Why should I purchase this book if I'm not a parent?" My response is always the same, “If you care to improve the quality of life for children through parents, you will find this book relevant, rewarding, and realistic in its approach and techniques.”
One of my favorite writers, John Donne, said, "Any man's death diminishes me, for I am involved in mankind." This statement has special meaning for me and has given rise to my own philosophy: “A parent's life is only as good as the success of the child”.
